Anti-Catholic Myths Debunked
Author: Bishop Patrick John Ryan
language: en
Publisher: Sophia Institute Press
Release Date: 2016-12-15
Many good people reject the Catholic Church for what they consider to be its absurd teachings. In these pages, Archbishop Patrick John Ryan shows that these souls are mistaken not in condemning absurd teachings, but in believing those teachings to be Catholic. Archbishop Ryan considers the most common charges levied against Catholicism, showing that not only are those scorned doctrines not Catholic, they re condemned by the Church! Here are just a few of the common misconceptions that are corrected in this book: That the Church claims to endow its priests with the power of forgiveness a power reserved to God aloneThat Catholics believe inanimate objects (such as relics and holy water) can perform miraclesThat Catholics pray as well to statues, images, and relics, offering them worship that belongs to God aloneAnd many more surprising charges! This book is no catechism nor is it meant to be; reading it won t make a person Catholic. But it will expel from the minds of fair-minded souls scores of popular misconceptions about the Church ones that have for too long served as impediments to persons genuinely yearning for full communion with Christ.
Debunking Voltaire: A Christian Critique
Author: Advanced Apologetics Research

Publisher: Dr. Samuel Inbaraja S
Release Date:
Voltaire’s ideas were profoundly shaped by Enlightenment thinkers, including those who championed Deism—a belief in a distant, uninvolved creator. However, the cognitive biases that Voltaire displayed, such as his predisposition to favor secularism and his antagonism towards organized religion, led him to overlook the moral and existential truths that Christianity provides. Through critical examination, we will highlight these cognitive biases and the logical errors in his philosophical system. For instance, one major logical flaw in Voltaire’s reasoning is his simplistic association of religious belief with the abuses of religious institutions. By conflating institutional corruption with the essence of Christian teaching, Voltaire erected a straw man that is easily dismantled. Similarly, Voltaire’s hermeneutic approach—his interpretation of sacred texts—reveals numerous errors. He often misrepresented or misunderstood biblical passages, failing to grasp the historical and theological context within which they were written. Furthermore, Voltaire’s understanding of science, though ahead of his time in some respects, was incomplete. His critique of miracles, for example, rested on a narrow view of natural laws that contemporary science has since expanded. Voltaire’s critiques of Christianity in light of science often relied on outdated or superficial scientific concepts, which we will examine in later chapters.
