Abstract - The history and success of project management within the IT industry is something that has been typically a dark art. The numerous failures and lack of requirements needed to enter the profession of project management has been a talking point for many years. Ultimately, the success and consequent failure of projects as a result of various critical success factors, both external and internal, will be investigated and discussed. The research that will be conducted throughout the course of this project will follow a grounded theory approach. A list of five critical success factors have been identified, which can be provided to help the potential users & project managers to successfully implement the IT/IS project in their small & medium sized enterprises.
