To summarize this book in a single paragraph: It is perfectly legitimate and proper to call Pluto, Ceres, and Eris planets. Why? Because that's what the majority of planetary scientists confidently and openly call them. The famously flawed definition was the result of a small minority of astronomers who leveraged a procedural protocol to force their opinions onto the world. That's not science, and it's not how definitions work. Their "definition" does not pass scrutiny. Pluto is a planet by any sensible definition of the word. All the specific details to back that up, how it all happened, and how to resolve the problem are contained here. This book only briefly discusses the internal politics of the IAU. It is more about the history and science of astronomy and the interplay of objects in the Solar System. It is a categorical analysis of the largest objects in the Solar System and many of the small ones too. It explores the words we use to describe it all, and how scientific definitions and classification schemes work in other disciplines for comparison. The conclusion is simple. If you love science, astronomy, and space exploration, you should be calling Pluto a planet too.
The Guardians - Book 2

The Guardians - Book 2 continues the story about the human race fighting to survive another extinction event caused by an alien race known as the Tyrax. The Tyrax first tried to wipe the human race off the face of the planet by using a nanobiotechnology weapon to terraform Earth for their own unique DNA makeup. Earth survived with the help of a friendly alien race from Latar who sent a Guardian to watch over Earth five hundred years ago. His name is Òmon and he helps prepare the human race for the eventual invasion of the Tyrax and teaches humans how to fight back. In Book 2 the Tyrax have returned to finish the job with a large warship fleet and a new weapon they call the Destroyer. It is a large asteroid that will do more damage to the biosphere than the meteorite that wiped out the dinosaurs sixty-five million years ago. To prevent this new extinction event, Òmon returns with more Guardianships to defend Earth from the Tyrax attack. Brandon Cole, Mike Wolinsky, Lizzy Rollins, Paul Ballard, Manco Cusi, Amaru Tupac and all the other human recruits from centuries past join forces with the new 28th Space Strike Force to battle the Tyrax warships in the Asteroid Belt. The space battle is devastating to both sides and thousands of lives are lost in Earth’s desperate struggle for survival. The defenders do all they can to try and stop the asteroid from destroying Earth. Saving the human race, Earth and the solar system from Tyrax colonization is just the first step in the war with the Tyrax. Out of necessity, humans must become the new Guardians of the galaxy if they wish to overcome and defeat this cruel and merciless race of alien beings.
How to Become a Planet

With the help of new friends and a planetarium hotline, thirteen-year-old Pluto goes on a journey of self-discovery, in this poignant story about mental health from acclaimed middle grade author Nicole Melleby. A Publishers Weekly Best Middle Grade Book of 2021 One of The Nerd Daily's “Anticipated Queer Book Releases You Can’t Miss in 2021” One of Lambda Literary's “May’s Most Anticipated LGBTQ Literature” “Gorgeous.” —BuzzFeed The two most important things to know about Pluto Timoney: (1) she’s always loved outer space (obviously); and (2) her favorite season is summer, the time to go to the boardwalk, visit the planetarium, and work in her mom’s pizzeria. This summer, when Pluto’s turning thirteen, is different. Pluto has just been diagnosed with depression, and she feels like a black hole is sitting on her chest, making it hard to do anything. When Pluto’s dad threatens to make her move to the city—where he believes his money could help her get better—Pluto comes up with a plan to do whatever it takes to be her old self again. If she does everything that old, “normal” Pluto would do, she can stay with her mom. But it takes a new therapist, new tutor, and new (cute) friend with a plan of her own for Pluto to see that there is no old or new her. There’s just Pluto, discovering more about herself every day.
