Owl City: A Biography of Adam Young

Adam Young was a shy boy growing up. He didn't have many friends, and wasn't popular at school. He lived in the middle of nowhere, in the small town of Owatonna, Minnesota, and daydreamed about seeing the ocean. After graduating from high school, he didn't have much direction in life. He worked dead-end jobs in warehouses, and was kicked out of the community college in his hometown. Music was his passion, and he spent his free time down in his parents' basement, writing and recording his own songs on an old Dell computer, often late into the night. He wished he could make music for a living, but that seemed an impossible dream. This is the story of a chronic daydreamer who never felt at home in the real world. While his classmates went off to college and made lives for themselves elsewhere, Adam stayed at home and made music. Despite a dislike for his job, and a lack of social interaction, Adam found solace in the creative process. Eventually this led him to create a musical project named Owl City. This book is a culmination of more than two years of work. It is 480 pages long, and includes thirty-four illustrations. As part of the research for this book, the author lived in Owatonna, Minnesota for six months, where Adam grew up and continues to live. The experience brought life and color to the stories in his research.
