Publisher: Cambridge University Press
Release Date: 2010-06-24
A 2010 collection of survey articles by leading experts covering fundamental aspects of triangulated categories, as well as applications in algebraic geometry, representation theory, commutative algebra, microlocal analysis and algebraic topology. This is a valuable reference for experts and a useful introduction for graduate students entering the field.
Triangulated Categories

The first two chapters of this book offer a modern, self-contained exposition of the elementary theory of triangulated categories and their quotients. The simple, elegant presentation of these known results makes these chapters eminently suitable as a text for graduate students. The remainder of the book is devoted to new research, providing, among other material, some remarkable improvements on Brown's classical representability theorem. In addition, the author introduces a class of triangulated categories"--the "well generated triangulated categories"--and studies their properties. This exercise is particularly worthwhile in that many examples of triangulated categories are well generated, and the book proves several powerful theorems for this broad class. These chapters will interest researchers in the fields of algebra, algebraic geometry, homotopy theory, and mathematical physics.
Triangulated Categories in Representation Theory and Beyond

In recent years, triangulated categories have proved very successful as a common mathematical framework for formulating important advances in various fields, and at the same time for the interaction between different subject areas. The purpose of the symposium was therefore not only the study of triangulated categories in itself, but rather fruitful exchanges between disciplines. The symposium brought together established researchers who have made important contributions involving triangulated categories. Many participants came from representation theory, but there were also participants with backgrounds in commutative algebra, geometry and algebraic topology.
