Esta tesis analiza la imagen de la inmigración en la ficción televisiva de prime time, analizando para ello casi 3.000 personajes de ficción, siendo la mayor muestra, hasta la fecha, que se ha empleado en España para un estudio sobre inmigración. Se pretende comprobar si la aparición del fenómeno inmigratorio se caracteriza, como concluyeron el resto de investigaciones realizadas, por la distorsión, la mirada prejuiciosa, la infrarrepresentación y la asociación, en general, con valores negativos. Gracias a los cuatro estudios realizados (tres de corte cuantitativo y uno de corte cualitativo), la tesis intenta cubrir varios aspectos relacionados con la representación de los inmigrantes en la ficción audiovisual. Así, se analiza la imagen que se ofrece de los inmigrantes, el tipo de interacciones que este tipo de personajes establece con los nacionales y el modo de creación de personajes, tanto a nivel teórico como práctico.
