Forensic Psychology is the interaction between psychology (i.e., the study of the human mind, the mental, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of a person or be it a group) and the justice system. It deals with the primary fundamentals of legal principles revolving mostly around a specific area of concern. Likewise; the ability or competence of a said individual to stand trial as well as incorporate other aspects of considerations as well as relevant jurisdictional terminologies (e.g., the definition of 'criminally insane' may differ from one country to another depending on the parameters set in each country's jurisdiction) also to effectively interact with law personnel such as judges, attorneys etc, a knowledge of these fundamentals must be firmly grasped by the individual. The major aspect of Forensic Psychology is the ability/competence to stand in court and testify as a credible expert witness, to reiterate psychological findings to help the ongoing case, to reformulate the findings into the legal jargon to be found among legal experts and courtrooms, to provide the said information in a way that will be correctly understood and applied. Furthermore, to be a credible and esteemed witness, one must have a firm understanding and appreciation of the philosophy, rules, and the general standards within the judicial system. A forensic psychologist must grasp the adversary system (i.e., it is a system which pits the prosecution against the defense. Therefore, it has two sides which present their case or clients' positions), it is also the exclusionary rule which in countries such as the United States, was set up to protect the constitutions rights of the defendant (evidence collected or hence analyzed without consent or knowledge of the defendant can be effectively dismissed in a court of law) thus, it is important for any willing to undertake this course of work to familiarize themselves with all the aspects of Criminology that will deal to understand terms and procedures in a court of law. This book looks at the whole spectrum on the use of forensic psychology in law, that highlights important information for students that will use the said book. Book jacket.
