This publication was prepared by the Office of Highway Information Management, Federal Highway Administration. It provides a general historical summary of information dealing with highways, their use, and their financing, thus bringing under one cover a comprehensive statistical review of highway development in the United States through 1995. The information presented in this volume supplements and, in some instances, supersedes similar data presented in the five earlier Highway Statistics Summary publications. A listing of the data is given in the table of contents and a brief description is given in the text accompanying each section.
