Zbornik ('Ponovni premislek o ustvarjanju znanja in vključevanje/izključevanje v plesnih skupnostih, Zbornik 32. Simpozija ICTM Študijske skupine za etnokoreologijo, 29. julij–5. avgust 2022, Brežice, Slovenija') vsebuje izbor prispevkov, predstavljenih na 32. simpoziju ICTM Študijske skupine za etnokoreologijo, osrednji mednarodni konferenci s področja etnokoreologije, plesne antropologije in sorodnih disciplin, ki je potekal v Brežicah od 25. julija do 5. avgusta 2022. Prispevki, predstavljeni na simpoziju in vključeni v zbornik, obravnavajo dve ključni temi: ponovni premislek o ustvarjanju znanja v raziskavah plesa in vključevanje/izključevanje v plesnih skupnostih. Activating Arts to Understand Disability in Africa
While Disability Studies has become more diversified in recent years, contemporary debates still favour the Northern Hemisphere, ignoring the lived experience of disabled people in much of the global South. Few theoretical studies pay sufficient attention to the range of beliefs and attitudes towards disability in specific African contexts, despite the fact that beliefs and explanations for disability permeate daily existence in sub-Saharan African places, and can have real consequences for persons with disabilities, leading to stigmatisation, marginalisation, and even violence. This volume is a timely intervention that seeks to address some of these imbalances and biases. Through frank life writing, evocative poetry, and critical reflections on African arts and literatures, the contributors highlight the urgent need for more culturally informed understandings of disability, as a means by which to challenge existing explanations. They examine the powerful role of different creative forms, tools, and methodologies in enhancing understandings of disability in African contexts. Demonstrating the power of cultural representation in building sensitivity to the range of issues related to disability, this book is of key relevance not just to scholars and students of disability studies, African studies, and sociology, but to all who seek to advocate for social change. The volume is a key outcome of the Disability and Inclusion Africa Network. Among the many challenges confronting the liberal arts today is a fundamental disconnect between the curricula that many institutions offer and the training that many students need. Discipline-specific models of teaching and learning can underprepare students for the kinds of interdisciplinary collaboration that employers now expect. Although aware of these expectations and the need for change, many small colleges and universities have struggled to translate interdisciplinarity into programs and curricula that better serve today’s students. Written by faculty engaged in the design and delivery of interdisciplinary courses, programs, and experiential learning opportunities in the small college setting, The Synergistic Classroom addresses the many ways faculty can leverage their institutions' small size and openness to pedagogical experimentation to overcome the challenges of limited institutional resources and enrollment concerns and better prepare students for life and work in the twenty-first century.
