Das Lehrbuch stellt das gesamte Gebiet der Praktischen Theologie dar. Der erste Teil bestimmt anhand einer forschungsgeschichtlichen Retrospektive, die durch einen komparativen Blick auf die katholische Pastoral und die Entwicklung in den USA ergänzt wird, den Gegenstand der Praktischen Theologie als „Kommunikation des Evangeliums in der Gegenwart“. Am Beginn des zweiten Teils stehen begriffliche und hermeneutische Klärungen. Sie bilden die Basis für eine Analyse der empirischen Grundbedingungen und der theologischen Grundbestimmungen der Kommunikation des Evangeliums. Der dritte Teil rückt dieses Geschehen in der heutigen Praxis in den Blick: die Sozialformen, die Tätigkeiten und die kommunikativen Formen. Dabei werden biblische Perspektiven, christentumsgeschichtliche Einsichten und empirische Befunde in handlungsorientierendem Interesse miteinander verbunden.
Praktische Theologie
Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert ist die Praktische Theologie als ordentliche Wissenschaftsdisziplin fest im Universitätswesen verankert. Hinsichtlich ihres Wissenschaftscharakters, ihrer Aufgaben und Zielsetzungen, ihrer Forschungsperspektiven und –methoden hat sie sich seitdem - im Modus der Dauerreflexion – zu positionieren und zu bewähren: Von einer pastoralpraktischen Vermittlungs- und Gestaltungsdisziplin, die auf die Befähigung zum kirchenleitenden Handeln ausgerichtet war, hat sie sich entwickelt zu einer Wissenschaft, die die Möglichkeiten zukünftiger Sozialgestaltungen von Religion diskutiert. Die vorliegende Publikation möchte mit einer Praktischen Theologie bekannt machen, die vielerorts gewiss noch als terra incognita wahrgenommen wird. Practical theology has outgrown its traditional pastoral paradigm. The articles in this handbook recognize that faith, spirituality, and lived religion, within and beyond institutional communities, refer to realms of cultures, ritual practices, and symbolic orders, whose boundaries are not clearly defined and whose contents are shifting. The International Handbook of Practical Theology offers insightful transcultural conceptions of religion and religious matters gathered from various cultures and traditions of faith. The first section presents ‘concepts of religion’. Chapters have to do with considerations of the conceptualizing of religion in the fields of ‘anthropology’, ‘community’, ‘family’, ‘institution’, ‘law’, ‘media’, and ‘politics’ among others. The second section is dedicated to case studies of ‘religious practices’ from the perspective of their actors. The third section presents major theoretical discourses that explore the globally significant diversity and multiplicity of religion. Altogether, sixty-one authors from different parts of the world encourage a rethinking of religious practice in an expanded, transcultural, globalized, and postcolonial world.
