Communication and earth observation satellites are frequently being placed in synchronous earth orbit. To increase the system life and survivability of these satellites, spacecraft designers and builders must better understand the synchronous space environment. The occurrence of environmentally linked anomalous behavior aboard several synchronous satellites has made the need for a better understanding of the synchronous environment particularly evident. During the next few years there is considerable activity planned towards characterizing the synchronous orbit environment, and these effects should provide the needed environmental definition. In the interim, this report is directed towards consolidating existing published data on synchronous conditions in a form useful to those currently having to make design decisions about synchronous space systems.
