Materialisation in Art & Design (MAD), the temporary master's program at the Sandberg Instituut, investigated the conventional hierarchy in art and design education in which concept often takes precedence over material or the making of the work. In an effort to (re)establish a relationship with “material” on both a personal and a societal level, the program placed emphasis on the material expressions of works. This book reflects on the experiences generated through the lens of MAD.
