German Foreign Policy Since Unification

Author: Volker Rittberger
language: en
Publisher: Manchester University Press
Release Date: 2001
This book examines the extent to which German foreign policy has changed since unification, and analyzes the fundamental reasons behind this change. The book has three main aims. The essays develop theories of foreign policy to predict and explain Germany's foreign policy behavior. They test competing predictions about German foreign policy behavior since unification in several issue areas. They also assess the much-debated question as to whether post-unification Germany's foreign policy is marked by continuity or change.
Debating Levinas’ Legacy

The contributions of this volume discuss the legacy of Emmanuel Levinas’ philosophy. Examining critically the limits of his thinking, they also bear witness to its influence on contemporary philosophy, thus demonstrating the significance of his groundbreaking project of establishing ethics as first philosophy. In four parts, “First Philosophy, Phenomenology, and Ethics,” “Phenomenology and its Theological Turn?,” “Ethics and Aesthetics,” “Phenomenology, Hermeneutics, Deconstruction,“ the major themes in Levinas’ oeuvre are addressed, such as alterity, human dignity, religion, and communication.
