Kunst und Mythos: Keltische Weltdeutung in der Latènezeit

Kunst, Religion, Mythos – „Die keltische Daseinsdeutung und die Latènekunst“ gibt einen umfassenden Einblick in eine Kultur, die über Jahrhunderte das Leben der Bevölkerung weiter Teile Europas und darüber hinaus prägte. Durch den Vergleich ausgewählter Latènefundstücke aus dem heutigen österreichischen Raum mit Funden aus besser dokumentierten keltischen Siedlungsgebieten sowie durch das Einbeziehen antiker Überlieferungen und der inselkeltischen Mythologie gelingt es der Kunsthistorikerin Susanna Berndt neue Erkenntnisse über das mythische Weltbild der Bewohner im latènezeitlichen Siedlungsgebiet des heutigen Österreich zu gewinnen. Der erste Teil des Werkes beinhaltet eine Beschreibung der Latènekunst einschließlich chronologischer Einteilung ihrer Kunststile, einen Überblick über die keltische Daseinsdeutung mit Darstellung der wichtigsten Gottheiten, Jenseitsvorstellungen und Kulthandlungen sowie abschließend eine Zusammenfassung der inselkeltischen Überlieferungen. Der zweite Teil konzentriert sich auf die Analyse von Latènefunden aus dem heutigen österreichischen Raum. Deutlich zeigt sich, dass eine sorgfältige Analyse der Darstellungen auf Fundobjekten Rückschlüsse auch auf die Vorstellungswelt einer Kultur zulässt, die selbst keine Schriftstücke über ihre Daseinsdeutung hinterließ.
