Kane
Driven mad by a lifelong battle with depression and suffocating fear of failure, a devoted husband and father violently takes his own life and finds himself trapped in a dark, terrifying underworld ruled by a psychotic fallen angel, a place of hopelessness where lost souls face unimaginable horrors and endure endless torment to the amusement of the beautiful and twisted Ereshkigal. For Kane, however, death brings clarity and purpose. Drawing on an inner strength he has never known, Kane sets out across the twisted planes of purgatory with unrelenting determination to redeem himself and find a way home. Both amused and fascinated by Kane's tenacity, Ereshkigal's motives toward Kane begin to change and soon twist into a dark obsession. Instead of toying with this mortal, she now seeks to keep him for herself.
Happy Village
Deep inside the valley of a magical forest sits Happy Village, a wonderful town with good people and tidy houses. Timmy and Maple live in this peaceful place, and the two children love to play in the nearby forest, with its pretty flowers, tasty fruits and vegetables, and towering trees. But one day, Timmy notices his beloved forest is changing. The flowers and trees no longer have such vibrant colors, and, very soon, they all begin to die. The villagers have no explanation for the tragedy, but Timmy knows who might: Secel, the happy and magical clown who lives in the forest. When his mother forbids him to take the journey into the forest alone, Timmy decides to disobey her, and he and Maple begin their trek. Secel, however, does not have good news for the children. Even though he holds great magic, he cannot save the forest from its fate. Fortunately, the clown does know of someone who can help: God. This is a new and special discovery for the children, as well as the villagers; as they begin to understand God's miraculous powers, they all learn some very powerful and inspiring life lessons. Filled with delightful illustrations, Happy Village teaches children and adults alike about the awesome power of God and the abiding joy of seeking him always.
On Becoming Responsible
Pritchard provides a deliberate and convincing argument for a starting point for the discussion of moral development, on in which self regard and empathy provide equally essential groundings for individual morality. Drawing essential elements from the work of Reid, Strawson, Rawls, Kohlberg, and Gilligan, he builds a comprehensive framework for tracing moral development from childhood--one that allows human morality to be grounded in both reason and emotion and that recognizes the importance to morality of justice and rights as well as caring and responsibility.
