La interocepción ancla teóricamente esta monografía como modo investigativo para hacer visible y reconceptualizar el funcionamiento del Caribe como un laboratorio para la experimentación científica, política, social y económica. El libro sostiene que la llamada “condición insular”, patologizada históricamente como un problema cultural, geopolítico y psicológico, alberga y traduce en última instancia una condición experimental. ¿Cómo aprehende el sujeto de ensayo su cuerpo mientras acecha en las cámaras del laboratorio? Humanos destinados a diversas formas de experimentación (farmacológica, eugenésica, neoliberal, comunista y otras) hiper-vigilan el estado de una corporeidad que es a la vez propia y ajena, causa y efecto del laboratorio caribeño, patógena y patologizada. A través de la interocepción—la percepción de señales corporales internas—los sujetos de ensayo se estudian a sí mismos para también diseccionar los métodos que los examinan. Interocepción insular abarca desde mediados del siglo XX hasta la época contemporánea. This book provides a comprehensive overview and critical evaluation of the emerging and exciting topic of interoception – the perception of the body’s internal state. Interest in the topic has been driven by the observation that interoception appears to affect fundamental psychological processes and numerous physical and mental health conditions.
