Improving Training and Maintenance Operations in Aeronautic Related Processes Using Augmented Reality

The work presented in this thesis is related to application of Augmented Reality Tools in Aeronautic related processes. The research include an overview of Augmented Reality, it's history and current development. With a especial focus in maintenance operations in the aeronautic industry. Afterwards there is an explanation of the main components from the study case, each component with a detail description of functions and interactions. There is a summary of the experiments done and the analysis done from the experimental data. The final section of the thesis is the conclusions and future work related to the study case. The study case is a training kit for a RV-10 plane. The kit focuses in operations for the assembly of the plane’s fuselage. The experiments were done using the tools and materials from the RV-10 project in the university campus. At the end of the experiments one of the main conclusions of this work was that augmented reality improves the understanding of complex operations therefore reducing the time of operation.
Virtual and Mixed Reality - New Trends, Part I

The two-volume set LNCS 6773-6774 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Virtual and Mixed Reality 2011, held as Part of HCI International 2011, in Orlando, FL, USA, in July 2011, jointly with 10 other conferences addressing the latest research and development efforts and highlighting the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The 43 revised papers included in the first volume were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: augmented reality applications; virtual and immersive environments; novel interaction devices and techniques in VR; human physiology and behavior in VR environments.
