The racism and antisemitism of Fascist Italy have often been described as ‘mild’, ‘cultural’, ‘spiritual’, and essentially non-violent, especially in comparison with the racial ideology of Nazi Germany. This book challenges this simplistic interpretation with a thorough analysis of the texts and images of the magazine La Difesa della razza (Defence of the race), the principal public voice of Fascist biological racism, which appeared fortnightly between 1938 and 1943 under the editorship of Telesio Interlandi, Mussolini’s ‘unofficial mouthpiece’, with governmental financial support. A negative icon of the propaganda of Fascist racism, La Difesa della razza first appeared in August 1938 shortly before the passing of Italy’s Racial Laws, but had a long gestation. It was the expression of a Fascist cultural milieu – journalists, writers, artists, and architects – headed by Interlandi, whose racism and antisemitism dated back to the end of the First World War. By placing the magazine’s emergence in this longer timescale, and exploring the interrelationships of political action, ideological discourse, and imagery, this book also demonstrates how the project of ‘anthropological revolution’ – building the New Man – was a central element of Italian Fascism, from the very beginning to the deportation of Italian Jews. This new English edition has been thoroughly revised and updated.

This book deals with a topic that is gaining increasing critical attention, the literature of nonsense and absurdity. The volume gathers together twenty-one essays on various aspects of literary nonsense, according to criteria that are deliberately inclusive and eclectic. Its purpose is to offer a gallery of “nonsense practices” in literature across periods and countries, in the conviction that important critical insights can be gained from these juxtapositions. Most of the cases presented here deal with linguistic nonsense, but in a few instances the nonsense operates at the higher level of the interpretation of reality on the part of the subject—or of the impossibility thereof. The contributors to the volume are established and younger scholars from various countries. Chronologically, the chapters range widely from Dante to Václav Havel, and offer a large span of national literatures (Czech, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese) and literary genres (poetry, prose, and drama), inviting the readers to trace their own pathway and draw their own lines of connection. One point that emerges with particular force is the notion that what distinguishes literary nonsense is its somehow “regulated” nature. Literary nonsense thus sounds like a deliberate, last-ditch attempt to snatch order from the jaws of chaos—the speech of the “Fool” as opposed to the tale told by an idiot. It is this kind of post-Derridean retrieval of choice as the defining element in semantic transactions which is perhaps the most significant insight bequeathed by the study of nonsense to the analysis of poetry and literature in general.

Il bullismo: conoscerlo per sconfiggerlo. Il bullismo è un fenomeno trasversale in preoccupante crescita, che riguarda tutti quanti noi in veste di genitori e di educatori. In questo libro, dopo una breve premessa finalizzata a inquadrare il contesto e a fornire alcune statistiche, si cercherà di analizzare le condotte tipiche di bullismo e cyberbullismo attraverso la descrizione di alcuni casi di cronaca, italiani e stranieri. Particolare attenzione verrà posta sui differenti attori coinvolti nell'azione (vittime, spettatori e aggressori) e sugli effetti, a breve e lungo termine, che il bullismo ha su di loro. Si cercheranno poi di analizzare alcune possibili soluzioni che possano essere di aiuto a coloro che si trovano a contatto con i ragazzi, per sostenere le vittime nel migliore dei modi e tentare di recuperare gli autori degli atti di violenza. A tal proposito si è ritenuto utile fornire una breve descrizione del funzionamento della giustizia minorile, affrontando anche il tema delle responsabilità (civili e penali) di scuola, genitori ed educatori. In appendice verrà data una lista di film sull'argomento, in modo da fornire a educatori e insegnanti alcuni possibili spunti di riflessione. Emanuele Florindi, avvocato, si occupa prevalentemente di diritto dell’informatica, bioetica e tutela dei minori. Vice presidente AISF (Accademia Internazionale di Scienze Forensi) e membro del CSIG di Perugia (Centro Studi Informatica Giuridica), tiene frequentemente, in qualità di relatore o docente, corsi e seminari in tema di criminalità informatica, computer forensics e tutela dei minori in rete. È stato membro del Comitato di Garanzia “Internet e Minori” ed ufficiale di complemento in guardia di finanza. Sin dal 2000 collabora attivamente, in qualità di consulente, con numerose procure della Repubblica, coadiuvando gli inquirenti nel corso di indagini inerenti reati di criminalità informatica. Autore di varie pubblicazioni in materia, è professore a contratto del corso di Diritto dell’informatica presso il corso di laurea in Informatica e di Informatica forense presso il corso di Laurea in Scienze per l’investigazione e la sicurezza.
