Abstract: EU-legislation, in particular the Landfill Directive, requires environmental monitoring of landfills, both pre- and post closure. In this report a comparison is given on national leachate monitoring guidelines in Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland. Based on this information suggestions are given for a minimum requirement monitoring program in line with the requirements given in European legislation. This project was initiated by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2003
