Motion blurred image is one of the most interesting subject in computer vision and biomedical area. Clear images can be reconstructed from the blurry sources by computer vision algorithms (e.g. motion deblurring). Blur can contain useful information for biomedical applications (e.g. laser speckle imaging). This dissertation discusses specifically embedded computer vision systems that we developed for those problems. Motion deblurring : We approached the problem from two different aspects: 1) light-weight algorithm and 2) highly accurate system. We developed a novel light-weight motion deblurring algorithm for an embedded computing platform. It is 4 to 80 times faster than the recent algorithms with better accuracy. A novel hardware/software system is developed to estimate spatially-variant blur kernel. In the system, we integrate an IMU, a depth sensor, a camera, and the control board. The system shows significant improvements in estimation accuracy compared to the most recent algorithms. LSI system : A conventional LSI system is built on a personal computer system. It has two short comings: 1) Too big to be used in emergency applications (e.g. emergency vehicle, battle field) 2) Field of View (FoV) is too small to be used for larger areas (e.g. burn wound). The mobile LSI system is battery-powered portable LSI system. An embedded processor is used for the processing unit and the special laser diode driving circuit is designed for reducing power consumption. The system can process the speckle row index map of VGA resolution at 2-3 fps for 4 hours without charging. The novel multi-camera LSI system is developed to increase the FoV. The images from multiple cameras are merged into a single functional map to cover larger areas. A novel unit based design enables simple increase of spatial resolution. We developed hardware/software architecture to connect 27 camera units in a single system. The mcLSI system shows better spatio-temporal resolution compared to the conventional LSI systems.
