Current Issues in Morphological Processing
The present special issue is the third volume produced by a group of researchers who convene every two years to discuss the role of morphology in word recognition. It includes thirteen experimental papers, all devoted to morphological processing. The volume explores a variety of languages such as Arabic, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Serbo-Croatian, and Spanish. The methods of investigations include single-word recognition, masked, cross-modal, and long-term priming, the monitoring of eye movements, or the use of computer simulations, with both the processing of speech and print being explored. The present volume, being the third consecutive one on morphology, provides a longitudinal perspective on the theoretical issues currently under debate in the field of morphological processing, and also sets the scene for future work in this domain.

The present volume contains selected papers from the 14th International Morphology Meeting held in Budapest, 13–16 May 2010, organized under the auspices of the Research Institute for Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Morphological Processing and Literacy Development
Synthesizing a range of studies on morphological processing from the past 30 years, this edited collection presents the current state of knowledge on morphological processing and defines classroom practices to help students conceptualise the role of morphology in reading, spelling, and vocabulary development. Research has increasingly indicated the importance of morphological tasks in relation to reading, spelling, and vocabulary acquisition in the classroom. Chapter authors present the theoretical considerations guiding morphological processing research to date, address the use of morphology with reference to different populations of learners, and propose effective and innovative instructional strategies for integrating morphology in the classroom.
