The interests towards renewable energy enhance its demand due to zero pollutant emission. Considering present scenario wind as renewable source of energy is highly recommended. As it is freely available and free from pollution, this wind can be effectively play highly potential role for energy generations. This can produce quality power during grid integrations as the load demands. Due to rapid variations in wind speed wind energy system needs highly synchronized and powerful controller techniques for power regulations to overcome transients, voltage sags and swells. A suitable and fast responsive controller is essential for power generation from wind energy. The controllers for wind energy system categorized into five controller designs according to its locations to control the demand of the turbine system during grid integrations. In this book various controller designs and its implementations are highlighted with reference to previous works and existing researches. This book emphasizes overall strategies for various controllers for wind energy conversion system and establishes ideas for the researcher for their novel works.
Modeling, Optimization and Intelligent Control Techniques in Renewable Energy Systems

This book consists of two parts. The first part studies selected recent developed strategies of control and management for renewable energy resources. The strategies of control are tested in the presence of unbalance power, voltage faults, frequency deviation, wind speed variation and parametric uncertainties. The second part is especially focused on study of hybrid photovoltaic (PV)-Concentrated solar power (CSP) coupled to a thermal storage system. It gathers a set of chapters covering recent survey literature, modelling and optimization of hybrid PV-CSP power plants. In this part, a detailed model of hybrid PV-CSP with thermal storage system is presented and smart optimization techniques like particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) are also described and used to optimally design the hybrid PV-CSP renewable energy system. The book would be interesting to most academic undergraduate, postgraduates, researchers on renewable energy systems in terms of modeling, optimization and control, as well as the satisfaction of grid code requirements. Also, it provides an excellent background to renewable energy sources, it is an excellent choice for energy engineers, researchers, system operators, and graduate students. This book can used as a good reference for the academic research on the smart grid, power control, integration of renewable energy sources, and related to this or used in Ph.D study of control, optimisation, management problems and their application in field engineering.

Model Predictive Control of Wind Energy Conversion Systems addresses the predicative control strategy that has emerged as a promising digital control tool within the field of power electronics, variable-speed motor drives, and energy conversion systems. The authors provide a comprehensive analysis on the model predictive control of power converters employed in a wide variety of variable-speed wind energy conversion systems (WECS). The contents of this book includes an overview of wind energy system configurations, power converters for variable-speed WECS, digital control techniques, MPC, modeling of power converters and wind generators for MPC design. Other topics include the mapping of continuous-time models to discrete-time models by various exact, approximate, and quasi-exact discretization methods, modeling and control of wind turbine grid-side two-level and multilevel voltage source converters. The authors also focus on the MPC of several power converter configurations for full variable-speed permanent magnet synchronous generator based WECS, squirrel-cage induction generator based WECS, and semi-variable-speed doubly fed induction generator based WECS. Furthermore, this book: Analyzes a wide variety of practical WECS, illustrating important concepts with case studies, simulations, and experimental results Provides a step-by-step design procedure for the development of predictive control schemes for various WECS configurations Describes continuous- and discrete-time modeling of wind generators and power converters, weighting factor selection, discretization methods, and extrapolation techniques Presents useful material for other power electronic applications such as variable-speed motor drives, power quality conditioners, electric vehicles, photovoltaic energy systems, distributed generation, and high-voltage direct current transmission. Explores S-Function Builder programming in MATLAB environment to implement various MPC strategies through the companion website Reflecting the latest technologies in the field, Model Predictive Control of Wind Energy Conversion Systems is a valuable reference for academic researchers, practicing engineers, and other professionals. It can also be used as a textbook for graduate-level and advanced undergraduate courses.
