By most accounts, I have had a very successful career. I have been blessed with the opportunity to not only serve as a police officer, but also to lead our country’s largest police department. Beyond that, I remain the only law enforcement person to have ever served in the cabinet of the president. In addition, I have had a very rewarding career in academia as a professor, lecturer and department head.
