Muziek en woord" is een studie over de literaire esthetica van de bekroonde Vlaamse auteur Maurice Gilliams (1900-1982). Gilliams was een verfijnd autobiografisch auteur van zowel proza, poëzie als essayistisch werk. Hij is vooral bekend om zijn fijnzinnige autobiografische parel "Elias of het gevecht met de nachtegalen" waarmee hij op 36-jarige leeftijd doorbrak. Gilliams werd bekroond met de Constantijn Huygensprijs voor zijn gehele oeuvre, met de Driejaarlijkse Staatsprijs ter bekroning van een schrijversloopbaan en met de Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren. In haar boek over de literaire esthetica van Maurice Gilliams' proza, gaat Katalin Balogh dieper in op de verhoudingen tussen muzikale en literaire vormen en structuren. Het proza-oeuvre van Gilliams is een resultaat van de zoektocht van de schrijver om de muziek aan het woord te laten in de letterkundige vormtaal.

This innovative manual provides 148 Figures and Tables, deducted from a recently enlarged database of more than 1.000 phonetograms (Voice Range Profiles) from professional voice users (singers, actors, and dancers) of both genders, of ages between 8 and 88 years. The E.T.M. (Eclectic Therapy Method) offers the possibility to objectively evaluate, in real time, the capacities of a given voice, as expressed by the different parameters for each tone of the vocal range, and to expand them to their maximum potentiality, considering the general rules of vocal hygiene. This way, the interested reader can compare their own results of voice analysis, voice education or voice therapy with the exceptional data provided in this study.

This book is not another history of the dance in ancient Greece, but wants to lay the groundwork on which such a history should properly be build. The three preliminary studies offered here are, first, an extensive historiography of the subject which seeks to illuminate where we stand at present in reference to the large amount of work done on ancient Greek dance for the past 500 years. Secondly, an exercise in source criticism, embracing both texts and imagery, in order to establish the limits to which we can push any investigation, and thirdly, an attempt at model building to provide an explicit theoretical framework for future research. This is the first time that some of the approaches of the new dance scholarship which has arisen during the past few decades have been systematically applied to the dancing of the ancient world.
