This is the story of a little mouse who never grew from the day he was born.

One night his mother mistook him for a beetle, and very nearly ate him. And once a baby bird thought his tail was a worm and tried to pick it up.

He hid in an acorn cup, slept in a hummingbird's nest, took a ride on a frisky turtle, and flew through the air on a dry oak leaf.

Once a wood frog almost ate him, but the mouse had hooked his little hands under the frog's chin and wouldn't be swallowed!

The littlest mouse led a hazardous existence until one day he found the tiny house in an oak apple where he could be warm and snug and safe at last.

No one can present tiny animals with more appealing understanding than Moss Lathrop, whose pictures seem to come alive on every page.
