Highfields; A most handsome suburb

In the first half of the twentieth century, Huddersfield’s business and professional class occupied handsome new Georgian houses in the Highfields area. A little later the architectural showcase of New North Road extended uphill towards Edgerton, with more modest houses closer to town. Amid this varied housing were significant educational and religious establishments, some by distinguished architects. This book explores an area which, although losing some fine buildings to the ring road, still offers striking evidence of its rich social and architectural history.
