I worked, lived and played with the Inuit of Quebec's Ungava for several years. The Inuit call the territory Nunavik. I taught school in a little village in Nunavik situated at the eastern entrance to the Hudson Strait. A village named Kangiqsujuaq meaning big bay. After I left Kangiqsujuaq I stayed in touch with Yaaka Yaaka. Yaaka whose first name is the same as his surname is a hunter, a fisherman, a teacher, an artist, a photographer. He is a man who loves nature. Today is a ranger in the newly inaugurated Pingualuit Park. Yaaka is a Keeper of The Land. I travelled those lands and they are a treasure indeed. Over time I have received letters of invitation to return for one more fishing trip. Attached to each letter were photos of the land, the sea, and of the people. They are very beautiful and I think it only right I share them with you. I also include a short story I wrote awhile back titled Pingualuit along with a few photos taken by Robert Frechette and one taken by yours truly. I have used words to write two previous books. Using images is a new experience for me. I know you will enjoy.
