There are few parts of the south of England which still keep so much of a perculiarly regional character as Romney Marsh. Landscape and buildings combine to single out this stretch of flat scenery from Hythe to Rye, with the Royal Military Canal, the dykes, the Marsh sheep and the many church towers.
John Piper went, specially for King Penguin Books, to stay for a time in Romney Marsh, and the result of his visit is this description of the Marsh in water-colours, drawings and words.
