Jeff Tripp has a predilection for infatuations involving women that he knows little or nothing about and the object of one such unreasonable attraction is Sam Warren. During a series of business and social encounters, Jeff enters a relationship with Sam that evolves into one that threatens to become more than either intends. With Sam’s life crumbling around her and Jeff frustrated with his own they struggle not to cross a self-imposed line until Sam chooses without explanation to sever all contact.
Years later, Sam's situation changes and by happenstance she first rekindles her friendship with Jeff’s wife, Gail and together they devise a plan to test Jeff's passions. That plan succeeds beyond expectations resulting in complexities that that no one had anticipated. Desire, jealousy, and resentment repeatedly test the entwined relationships until Sam and Gail execute a second drastic plan that successfully simplifies everything.
