Drew Telmon is living her best life. Her basketball skills have not only caught the eye of her crush, but also the head coach of a D1 school. She couldn’t be happier.
Then she gets sick.
What starts as pain and stiffness in her neck soon turns into a boiling fever that nearly ends her life. Meningitis, the doctors say. She’s lucky to have survived.
Her hearing, however, did not.
Suddenly, the girl who had everything is thrust into a world of confusion, rejection, and loss. Her friends keep their distance. She can’t communicate. And to top it off, the meningitis stripped away her balance, which also took away her skills on a basketball court.
Drew must cope with losing everything as she learns a new language and desperately searches for a sense of normalcy and a way to fit in.
More importantly, though, she must learn she doesn’t need to fit in when she can stand out in a world of silence.
