Eloko

Throughout his long career Arthur Machen drew inspiration from the landscape of his childhood and youth, the countryside north of Caerleon in Gwent. He was fascinated by the brooding presence of the forest of Wentwood spilling over the hills to the east, and returned to it repeatedly in his novels, short stories and autobiographical writings, often as a setting for sinister or unsettling events. Wentwood Tales is a series of individually published limited edition short stories by a number of different writers, which seeks to evoke the spirit of Machen's work. Eloko, by Mike Buckingham, is the sixth and last in the series. In 1940 members of the Secret Army are training in Wentwood to resist the expected invasion, but something malevolent lurks in the shadows of the forest...
