This is the third novel in the Trident series.
Jon Brown, a fledgling musician, and his fiancé, Alison d'Ambrose, uncover additional clues to the destruction of her family's castle some twenty-one years ago. They and their friends embark on a lengthy excursion to track down the clue of a brown dragon.
Their search for the dragon is derailed for a time when they reach the Canyon Lands, whose inhabitants are plagued with vile demons from the Abyss. The instigator is the Marquis d'Gritz, a most powerful priest from the Abyss. They get unexpected help from a beautiful devil Archmage, Glasya.
Continuing their journey to find the brown dragon, they encounter the Cult of the Black Scorpion, who have created some hideous creatures from the local population. Here, their skills are sorely needed to set things right.
The brown dragon tells them that the Archmage Sarah le'Gard was the person behind the destruction of her castle and the abduction of her parents. Using a map to her tower, they head off to confront her. However, she has been dead for at least five years. Searching her tower for additional clues, they are nearly slain on numerous occasions, only teamwork can save them.
Celtic and Finnish mythology provides the back ground for the novel which is both a mystery and a love story.
