A Consequence of War

Duke Orsat had wanted a war. He didn't care if his soldiers were willing or conscripted when he marched them away to their fate. The potential consequences of his actions never even crossed his mind. Six years passed before finally; a message was delivered that the war was over. If that was true, where were the men? No one made it home until one wounded soldier arrived on horseback, carrying grim news for Keirrah and her town. War might be coming for them! Their way of life would never be the same. As well as a local leader, Keirrah's father had been a smith and an armor maker for the town of Windhorse and his only daughter had followed in his footsteps. When he too, had been forced to join the army, Keirrah had begun to fill the void his leaving created, and she was increasingly asked to take on many of his former duties. Now the town elders were turning to Keirrah to lead them through their most difficult times. Her mother's help was required to assist with the town's defenses and although Magda was more than capable, few trusted the strange and mysterious woman that Brin had made his bride so many years before.
