The Sugar Rat

This is a novel of evil, power greed and corruption set in the slick nineties. Gary Long, a top executive of a major international chemical company becomes aware of a criminal price-fixing scheme among the company he works for and other companies around the world. But when he takes information to the FBI he becomes a pawn in a plot that involves international espionage, U.S. government corruption, kidnapping and murder. Although not without his flaws, Long, spurred on by his beautiful wife, Jenna, tries to do the right thing on behalf of justice and his family. But at every turn, he faces a whipsaw of forces beyond his control and knowledge. The story moves from a small city in Indiana to a worldwide venue near Mena airport in Arkansas. Secret tapes that would prove Gary s case are the subject of a frantic search by sinister forces; the one independent witness meets with a suspicious death; lawyers, FBI agents, prosecutors and even his best friend betray him. Behind it all sits the company CEO, a man so ruthless he would murder his brother and send his son to prison rather than reveal his secret identity as the mastermind of a vast espionage network. In the end, some people go to jail and some people go to jail and some do not. Some are ruined, some prosper, and others go on pretty much as before. Few, if any, will ever learn the full details of the momentous events of which they have been a part.
